Dangel innovates with a new 4x4 with electric rear axle
Automobiles Dangel, the Alsatian 4x4 specialist, presents its latest innovation: a 4x4 with a fully autonomous electric rear axle.
Named 4WD by Dangel, this new system aims to redefine performance standards. Traditionally, a 4x4 uses the vehicle's engine power to distribute it between the front and rear axles. With 4WD by Dangel technology, the base engine power remains on the front wheels while an additional electric motor provides power to the rear wheels, offering the vehicle unmatched traction. Coupled with an electronic control unit, the system adapts instantly to changing road conditions. It is also paired with the base vehicle’s automatic transmission, ensuring an unprecedented level of driving comfort.
The new system is equipped with the selection knob, a feature characteristic of the Alsatian manufacturer's vehicles for 45 years. For this occasion, the knob has been redesigned and now integrates new functionalities. In "auto" mode, the vehicle operates in automatic 4x4, with the rear axle engaging as soon as the electronic controller detects a loss of traction, without any intervention from the user. The "LOW" mode amplifies the torque available to the rear wheels, allowing better handling of low-speed, high-power situations. It is the equivalent of a low-range first gear, benefiting from the latest technological advancements. The system includes a 48V LFP battery, which is self-sufficient and requires no external charging. To further enhance the system, Dangel has also adapted the vehicle’s ESP to ensure optimal safety.
