Circontrol enhances its eVolve Smart charging station

Tuesday 2 January 2024

Circontrol's semi-fast charger, eVolve Smart, now features a new contactless payment system and has undergone numerous improvements in terms of cybersecurity and electrical protection.

Manufacturer Circontrol has implemented a significant update to its eVolve Smart semi-fast charging station. This update includes various enhancements in cybersecurity, electrical protection, communication, and software. Circontrol has focused its efforts on ensuring the product complies with the technical requirements of different countries and various European regulations.

One of the key improvements to the eVolve Smart is the new contactless payment system. This solution allows users to pay for the charging session without the need for registration. It not only simplifies the process but also plays a crucial role in promoting electric mobility across the continent, making long-distance travel in electric vehicles more accessible. Through cloud technology, the payment system can be easily customized to meet the needs of the charging station owner with a simple software update.

Enhanced Security
The new version of the eVolve Smart charging station also optionally offers specific safety protections required in different European countries, such as PEN Fault for the United Kingdom or NF for France. Additionally, a welded contactor detector has been included as standard. Following specific European regulations, the new eVolve Smart charger complies with the German Eichrecht law, ensuring that the exact amount of energy is billed, and the data remains unaltered. Concerning the connection to the electrical network, the eVolve Smart has been designed following the Elaad V.3 standard (Netherlands).

Improved Connectivity
Another enhancement is in terms of connectivity. The eVolve Smart charging station is now compatible with the OCPP 2.01 protocol, ensuring seamless integration with back-office systems. Furthermore, it now offers Wi-Fi connectivity, and its RFID reader has been optimized. This charging station can be installed in both public access environments, such as urban spaces, shopping centers, parking lots, or airports, as well as in private areas, such as workplaces or condominiums. With its 22 kW power and Type 2 sockets, it is possible to gain approximately 130 km of autonomy in one hour. Finally, eVolve Smart is compatible with dynamic charging management systems (DLM).
